The work breakdown structure as a viable mechanism for the generation of successful projects

Abstract

Carrying out a Project Management guided by robust standards can generate a successful synergy, which increases the expected benefits for the development of the objective to work, as well as in the interested organization and for the participants of each of the projects that are conceptualized, but there is still the risk that a project may fail or not be completed. The Fundamental Guide for Project Management, known as PMBOK®, defines five groups of processes for project management: Initiation, Planning, Execution, Monitoring and Control, Closing. The process group that will be the subject of this research is the Planning, and specifically the Project Scope Management knowledge area, which includes the processes necessary to ensure that the project includes all the work required for it to be completed successfully. The main objective of this work is to create the Work Breakdown Structure for a project using the Xedro GESPRO management tool which allows a hierarchical decomposition, which starts from each of the deliverables and contains the work that will be executed by the project team to achieve the project's objectives and compliance with the agreed schedules. As a result, a case study is carried out on a real project and a methodology is defined to obtain the Work Breakdown Structure, thus defining the actual scope of a project.
